How to Make Your Own Glitter Glue (Just in Time for the Holidays!)

by Kelly Robinson on August 06, 2026

The holidays are the perfect time to get crafty — and if you've ever struggled to find the right glitter glue for your ornaments, wreaths, or seasonal projects, we have great news: you can make your own, it's easy and save so much money.  And you can customize the color and glitter density to match your project perfectly.

What You'll Need

  • 1 bottle of clear school glue (like Craft Smart or Elmer's)
  • Fine glitter in your color(s) of choice
  • A small 1oz cup
  • A craft stick or spoon for mixing
  • Optional: a few drops of water to thin the consistency

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Pour your glue into the 1oz container. Start with about 1-2 Tablespoons for a small batch.
  2. Add your glitter. Start with 1/4-1/2  teaspoons and adjust to your liking. More glitter = more sparkle!
  3. Mix thoroughly until the glitter is evenly distributed throughout the glue.
  4. Adjust consistency. If it feels too thick, add a tiny drop of water and stir again.
  5. Brush on to the top of dried paint for a sparkling finish (for even more sparkle, read our "ultra sparkle post" coming soon

Tips for Best Results
